DFSA Outreach

Open and transparent communication is vital to a healthy regulatory environment. To this end, the DFSA hosts Outreach sessions on a regular basis to interact with Firms operating in the DIFC.

The DFSA hosted an Outreach Seminar on 7th November 2012 for the Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs). The seminar provided valuable information on the obligations within the regulated regime for DNFBPs and provided useful information on current Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules and regulations and the role and responsibilities of the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).

The DFSA hosted an Outreach Seminar on 23rd October 2012 on “Risk-Based Approach (RBA) – Perspectives”.  A guest speaker from Standard Chartered Bank presented on the RBA from a  Firm’s perspective and the DFSA presented on the RBA from the Regulator’s perspective. The DFSA also presented on the new AML Module, provided a Suspicious Transaction Reports Update and presented their key observations from a recent Theme Review on Client Take-on Processes and Suitability.

The DFSA hosted an Outreach Seminar on 14th March 2012 with guest speakers from the National Bank Abu Dhabi (NBAD) and from the Anti-Money Laundering Special Cases Unit (AMLSCU) from the UAE Central Bank. Part 1 of the seminar focused on “Sanctions” from three perspectives – a Bank, Financial Intelligence Unit and the regulator.  Part 2 of the seminar included presentations from the Enforcement and Legal departments of the DFSA and included updates on the Companies Law Delegation, the new RPP Sourcebook Chapters, Consultation Paper 81 and recent enforcement outcomes.

The DFSA hosted an Outreach Seminar with guest speakers from the US Department of Homeland Security and from the Anti-Money Laundering Special Cases Unit (AMLSCU) from the UAE Central Bank. The seminar was designed for Compliance Officers and Money Laundering Reporting Officers and focused on recent AML case studies by Homeland Securities Investigations and the Do’s and Don’ts and how to improve STR submissions. October 13th 2011.

The DFSA and ICAEW hosted a breakfast briefing on the " Importance of Professional Accounting Bodies" on the 18th of September 2011.

The DFSA hosted a Seminar on Developments in the Audit Profession: Towards World's Best Practice in the GCC - The seminar was designed for Auditors from the GCC and the wider region interested in international developments and global standards in the profession. December 13 -14, 2010.

The DFSA hosted the 17th Annual Conference of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) in October 27-29 2010.

The DFSA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)  Hosted a Breakfast Briefing in September - The session focused on the future of audits and the future of financial reporting. September 20th at the DFSA.

The DFSA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)  Hosted a Breakfast Briefing in March - The session focused on the role of audit monitoring in improving the quality of, and confidence in, financial information in the Middle East. March 17th at the DFSA.

Other Events

The DFSA Hosted The Future of the Regulation of Takaful in February - The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB)  organised its 5th Seminar on the Regulation of Takaful on 22nd and 23rd February 2010, at the Emirates Towers Hotel, in Dubai.
